"--astonishing....astounding arrangements"---The New York Times

"--virtuosos in their own right, and together produce chamber music proper...close observance of each other's actions...a very tight performance."--Fanfare Magazine, referring to Wm. Anderson & pianist Joan Forsyth

"--the alert guitarist" ---The New York Times

"--The mirror-paneled recital room provided an apt visual metaphor for how such seemingly modest dimensions can trick the ear into an impression of vaster scale. Guitarist William Anderson brought both technical and expressive virtuosity to his accounts...a quasi-orchestral pallete of coloristic effects...deftly realized by Anderson as he shaped each entry with epigrammatic concentration." --- Thomas May, The Washington Post

Unexpected Reunion--a new work by William Anderson for sopranos, tenors, 16 guitars, violin & 'cello. This is a setting of Anderson's updated version of the famous story by Johann Peter Hebel. In short, a Pennsylvania anthracite coal miner is lost in the mine shortly before his wedding day. This story is sung by the sopranos. Meanwhile, 50 years of events transpire. The list of events is sung by the tenors, culminating in the extraordinary events of 2008! The sopranos finish the story, telling of the miner's body being found, preserved in iron vitriol. His bride, 50 years older, recognizes him, and wraps up her affairs.

Also on this program--Wuorinen's Dactyls for 1 and 2 guitars; Harold Meltzer's guitar solo, Doria Pamphili. Frank Brickle's newest work Genius Loci for mandolin & guitar, a companion piece for his Moericke setting, Denk es, O Seele. Terry Champlin's Harp of David, and other guitar ensemble music, tba.

This Hebel story was adored by Kafka, Wittgenstein, Walter Benjamin, and many others. Here are two articles that Benjamin wrote about Hebel:

Benjamin on Hebel II

Unison Arts, New Paltz
Picaresque--a program for solo guitar and harpsichord, with Joan Forsyth. Music by Manuel Ponce, including his fabulous Sonata for Guitar and Harpsichord, other works by Vivaldi, Rodrigo, Sor, Scarlatti, Bach.

Rodrigo's Fandango is The Quintessentially Picaresque work of the 20th C. Here is an excerpt--->

Here is Anderson's Grüne Heinrich:

The guitar you see here is one of the most remarkable instruments ever made. It was one of the late Thomas Humphrey's experimental models from 1987. Tom was a founder, or The Founder of Unison Arts, another legacy of his extraordinary devotion to the guitar. Tom is sorely missed. We love him very much.
